THE EXECUTION BLUEPRINT

One idea. One repeatable publishing system.

This playbook turns the source tutorial into a sequence of tasks, quality gates and reusable AI instructions. Work through it once, then reuse the same production system for your next book.

Search Amazon and analyze competition.

02 / CREATEGenerate page art

Build prompts, create, inspect, refine.

03 / PACKAGEDesign the cover

Sell the idea at thumbnail size.

04 / PRODUCEFormat for print

Prepare interior PDF and wrap cover.

05 / LAUNCHPublish on KDP

Submit metadata, files and disclosures.

5Core production stages
1Completed proof-ready book goal
Important distinction: 75 image prompts do not automatically equal a 75-page final printed book. Your manuscript's actual page count, blank backs and any front matter determine cover and KDP page settings.
01
DEMAND BEFORE DESIGN

Choose a niche people can recognize.

A specific book has a more obvious reader. Start with the customer, not with an arbitrary illustration theme.

TOO BROAD

“Kids coloring book”

Unclear audience, broad competition, weak reason to choose your product.

SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

“Monster truck coloring book for ages 4–8”

Identifiable subject, age range and buyer intent. The source tutorial uses this type of niche.

Research SOP

  1. Open Amazon.com. Type coloring book for in the search field.
  2. Write down autocomplete phrases. Narrow the phrase by audience, age and subject.
  3. Open relevant search results. Record review counts and visible purchase/sales indicators where Amazon provides them.
  4. Study leading covers: typography, color, complexity, illustration focus and age signals.
  5. Choose a focused niche with plausible buyer interest and a clear differentiation opportunity.
SignalWhat to recordInterpretation
Amazon autocompleteSpecific phrases suggested by AmazonA discovery signal, not proof of exact demand.
Competitor reviewsCounts, recurring complaints, audienceEvidence of customer activity; reviews are not current sales.
Sales indicator (if visible)On-page monthly purchase badgesDirectional demand data; availability varies.
Top cover patternsSimple vs. busy, title hierarchy, subjectLearn conventions; do not copy protected artwork or identities.
Decision gate: Write one sentence: “This book is for [WHO] who want [EXPERIENCE] with [SPECIFIC THEME].” If you cannot, keep refining the niche.
02
AI PRODUCTION ENGINE

Generate consistent pages, not random pictures.

The tutorial uses ChatGPT to first plan around 75 individual prompts, then generate pages one by one. Consistency and human review are what turn outputs into a coherent product.

SPECIFICATION

Define a visual style

Audience, page orientation, line weight, detail level, white background, strong outlines and no shading.

SCENE PLANNING

Plan variety

Build a numbered scene list first. Change subjects, activities and compositions without changing style.

REVIEW LOOP

Reject flawed artwork

Check anatomy, extra lines, clipped edges, accidental gray, logos and inconsistent detail.

Rights check: Avoid unlicensed franchise characters, brand marks, copied illustrations and misleading ownership claims. AI-generated assets must still comply with KDP content guidelines and applicable rights.

Source segment: 06:44–13:03. The “75” refers to the creator's example, not a universal KDP requirement.

03
PRODUCT PRESENTATION

Build a cover that wins the click.

At Amazon search-result size, customers notice the cover before they read the description. Prioritize clarity, not decorative complexity.

FRONT

Visual sales message

  • Strong readable title and clear subject.
  • Age signal if relevant.
  • Original, compelling central illustration.
  • Contrast and legibility at thumbnail scale.
BACK

Product explanation

  • Short reader-friendly promise.
  • A brief description of what is inside.
  • Room for KDP's barcode area.
  • Never keep an AI-invented ISBN or barcode.
Use the same AI conversation and visual specification so the cover feels connected to the interior. Final dimensions must be based on the official KDP Cover Calculator.
04
PRINT PRODUCTION

Assemble a clean manuscript in Canva.

The source demonstration uses an 8.5 × 11 inch paperback interior with black-and-white artwork. Your exact trim, bleed and margin choices must match your current KDP settings.

INTERIOR PDF
  1. In Canva, create a custom design: 8.5 × 11 in for this example.
  2. Add the planned interior pages in the intended print order.
  3. Place one approved illustration per designated page. Check image proportions and margins.
  4. Export as PDF Print. The tutorial also selects Flatten PDF.
  5. Inspect the downloaded PDF at actual size before upload.
FULL-WRAP COVER
  1. Choose print specs and confirm actual page count.
  2. Open the KDP Cover Calculator.
  3. Download the calculated full-wrap template.
  4. Build a single back + spine + front design in Canva.
  5. Check safe zones and barcode placement, then export the complete cover PDF.
Production correction: Do not merely stretch an illustration until it fits; that can distort the design. Resize and recompose properly. Follow KDP's current bleed, margins and resolution requirements rather than relying on the video's shortcut.

Source segment: 15:16–21:44 and 26:39–30:02.

9 prompts you can put to work today.

Replace the values in [BRACKETS] before use. Prompts are original templates added for this playbook, based on the workflow in the source tutorial.

PROMPT 01 / RESEARCH

Niche idea generator

Act as an Amazon KDP coloring-book niche research assistant. I want to create an original paperback coloring book for [TARGET AGE / AUDIENCE]. Give me 20 specific niche concepts. For each, include: target reader, clear book promise, 3 Amazon search phrases to validate manually, distinctive visual angle, and a possible title. Do not claim actual sales data or search volume. Avoid trademarks, copyrighted characters, and brand names.
PROMPT 02 / RESEARCH

Market research worksheet

Build a competitor research table I can fill in manually for the Amazon search phrase [KEYWORD]. Include columns for competitor title, audience, price, review count, visible sales badge (if any), cover style, customer complaints, and differentiation opportunity. Explain what conclusions are reasonable and what cannot be inferred from reviews alone.
PROMPT 03 / CREATE

75-page concept planner

You are an art director for an original [NICHE] coloring book for ages [AGE RANGE]. Plan 75 DISTINCT coloring-page scenes with progressive variety. Keep a consistent illustration style: bold, clean black outlines, white background, no gray shading, no filled black areas, uncluttered compositions, generous areas for coloring. Create a numbered table with scene, focal subject, background details, and difficulty level. Do not include existing copyrighted characters or logos.
PROMPT 04 / CREATE

Production-ready illustration

Create one portrait black-and-white coloring-page illustration based on Scene [NUMBER]: [SCENE DESCRIPTION]. Requirements: original line art only; crisp closed contours; simple legible shapes; consistent line weight; ample blank coloring regions; pure white background; no grayscale, no gradients, no shadows, no text, no logo, no watermark, no border that could be cropped. Audience: [AGE RANGE]. Keep the same visual style as the approved reference pages.
PROMPT 05 / REVIEW

Image quality audit

Audit this coloring-page artwork for print production. Check: extra lines, mismatched anatomy or wheels, open contours, awkward overlaps, unintentional shading, excessive complexity, clipped objects, stray text/logos, and variation from the style guide. Return a pass/fix verdict and the exact revised prompt needed if it fails.
PROMPT 06 / DESIGN

Front cover concept

Act as a professional children's activity-book cover art director. Propose 3 ORIGINAL front-cover concepts for a [NICHE] coloring book for [AUDIENCE], with title [TITLE]. Each concept should specify hierarchy, central illustration, color palette, subtitle placement, and readability at Amazon thumbnail size. Avoid copyrighted characters, trade dress, and logos. Recommend one direction and explain why.
PROMPT 07 / DESIGN

Back cover copy

Write back-cover copy (55–85 words) for an original [NICHE] coloring book titled [TITLE] for [AUDIENCE]. Use a welcoming, specific description of what is inside. Avoid unverified claims and exaggerated outcomes. Suggest a short headline and three short feature bullets. Leave space for the real KDP barcode.
PROMPT 08 / PUBLISH

Amazon listing copy

Create a clear Amazon KDP paperback product description for [TITLE]. Target reader: [AUDIENCE]. The book includes [ACTUAL PAGE COUNT / VERIFIED CONTENT]. Provide: one compelling opening, 4 factual benefits, intended gifting occasion if relevant, and a concise closing. Do not invent number of illustrations, outcomes, customer ratings, or endorsements. Avoid keyword stuffing.
PROMPT 09 / PUBLISH

Keyword brainstorm

Brainstorm relevant Amazon KDP keyword phrases for an ORIGINAL [NICHE] coloring book for [AUDIENCE]. Group by reader, activity, topic, and occasion. Flag phrases that might contain trademarks. I will verify and select the keywords myself using the current KDP interface; do not assume any exact field count or search volume.
